TEN YEARS OF PEACE IN ACTION

This year, we mark 10 years of working for peace.

In a world marked by conflict and uncertainty, ten years of work for peace mean far more than an anniversary.
They are proof that another way of acting is possible.

Since 2015, we have chosen to be a think and do organisation: a bridge between research and action, analysis and change.

Over the past decade, we have worked side by side with communities, partners, and institutions—building peace where it was most fragile and strengthening it where it was already in place.
Peacebuilding is about supporting peace processes in critical contexts, but also about prevention and advocacy, ensuring that stable societies do not slide into conflict.

Because peace is not a static achievement, but a living process that must be nurtured, defended, and reimagined.

This tenth anniversary is not a finish line, but the opening of a new chapter.
Today’s global challenges demand new energy, new ideas, and new alliances.

For our ten-year anniversary, we want to draw together the themes and connections that have shaped our journey.
The stories, people, and communities who made every step possible.
The insights we’ve gained.
The partnerships we’ve built.
And the impact we’ve created.

This is not a campaign to celebrate AP, but to celebrate peace in action.
An anniversary that is not just about memory, but a promise for the future.

TIMELINE

  1. OCTOBER

Bernardo Venturi, Bernardo Monzani and Valentina Bartolucci establish the Agency for Peacebuilding as the first Italian-based organisation specialised in peacebuilding and conflict prevention.

  2. During the first years, AP pushed forward an idea of peacebuilding focused on the primacy and leadership of individuals and groups who are directly affected by violent conflict, an appreciation for diversity and strong attention to learning. Reciprocity as a precondition for establishing truly equal relationships. This methodology developed during the early years paved the way to a peacebuilding approach that is concrete, results-oriented and open to confrontation, innovation and creativity.

  3. Enlargement of the Agency to new members
Start of intercultural dialogue and education activities in Bologna

  4. AP conducted a meta-evaluation of USIP youth programmes

  5. APRIL

  8. AP’s 10th Anniversary

For our 10th anniversary, we are launching a series of initiatives that combine memory, community and future: meetings, workshops, screenings and participatory events to build sustainable peace.

Among these, on Sunday 21 September 2025, at the Cinema Modernissimo in Bologna, we opened this journey with the screening of Quo Vadis, Aida? by Jasmila Žbanić, a powerful film — nominated for the 2021 Oscars.

We are also torchbearers in Bologna on the journey towards Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics, a gesture of passing responsibility between communities.

In support of this, a dedicated social media campaign will recount each stage of out 10 years journey, amplifying testimonies and invite our network to actively participate.
