FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS

Overview

RIMI is the Italian Network for International Mediation, chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and supported by a contact group designated by the Ministry itself, based on the group’s relevance to peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and international mediation.

The group includes the following entities:

  • Agency for Peacebuilding (AP)
  • Italian Initiative for International Mediation (3IM)
  • Women in International Security Italy (WIIS Italy)

The composition of the contact group is based on operational criteria and does not in any way represent an exhaustive list of Italian actors involved in international mediation, with whom this initiative seeks to engage in dialogue.

Project phases

  • Inception (2023–2024)
  • Feasibility and Foundation Stage (2024–2025)
  • Operational (2025–2026)

Methodology

RIMI adopts a hybrid State–Civil Society model, combining institutional coordination with expert-driven research and practice. The initiative uses a participatory and consultative methodology: multi-stakeholder engagement, evidence-based policy design, and international benchmarking drawing lessons from other countries which have implemented Mediation Support Structures. Training activities apply experiential and peer-learning approaches inspired by global mediation standards.
